iceman328's Rants and Raves

Here are all of my Rants and Raves about modern day things

Todays topic is:

Napster Faces the Music

Napster, why is it so popular? Why do so many people download it? Free music, of course! Napster has become a big hit with all of those college students because they can get free Mp3s from one another. I of course use it, and I have the largest collection of Final Fantasy Mp3's on the net. Seriously.

Anyways, Napster has been under a lot of stress, due to everyone that has been suing them. Well, at least Metallica is suing, and jeez, that drummer has one helluva annoying voice. Bad thing, Napster was planned to be terminated tonight at midnight. Good thing, Napster got reprieved and still lives until further notice. Download ahoy! There also is the Mac based version, which is made by another company, entitled Macster. The reasong that Macster also rules is that you can connect with other PC's on Napster and download all you want, just that the PC's can't download from you. I use both. Heheheheheh.

Also, I don't think Napster should be sued anyways! I have alwsays believed that Napster was the "middle man", meaning that Napster never included Mp3's on it's site, and only sponsored contests that involved songs made by users, not ripped off CDs. Which brings me to the comic of the day. Yes, the Comic of the Day. Thanks to Penny-Arcade, they've drawn a very inspirational cartoon about Napster and RIAA.

By the way, is Lars Ulrich on drugs? He never seems to shut up and I see him day in and day out on TV with his little complaints and I am dead sick of him. If you have any comments about Napster, I'd be glad to post them up on this page.

Good:

Napster allows people to share Mp3's and chat online.

Napster has a lot of great features about it, including the ability to have a hotlist full of friends.

Bad:

Napster allows people to share illegal Mp3's.

Napster sometimes takes forever to get online.

Thats, about, it.

Your Comments:

Here is Shinji 01's comments about the Napster "rant" (e-mail him at kenlang3@fast.net)

I think Napster had good intents to start off, but users misused its purpose. Napster owners really never had control of what people did with the program so it isn't their fault. The original idea was for people to sample music not d/l entire cd's. I think Metallica had the right to be mad. I have many friends and they were d/ling entire Metallica cd's. One problem is that Metallica has is who to blame. They lost some sales because Napster users were downloading these and making cd's of their owns. If anything they should have consulted with Napster about a way to restrict downloading entire cd's, but thats almost imposable. So I don't think they should have sued napster, but make an agreement with them on some way of solving this.
BTW About Lars Ulrich, no ones perfect. I've heard more horrible voices.
(d/ling or d/l stands for downloading and download)
